Appointments

Better Access to Mental Health
Many clients are referred by their GP or Psychiatrist under the Better Access to Mental Health Care Scheme. If you qualify for a referral under this scheme, you will be given a Mental Health Care Plan and a referral to see us. Under this scheme, clients are eligible to receive a Medicare rebate for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

Appointments and Fees
Westlakes Counselling offers appointments on weekdays and Saturdays. Our fees vary depending on how you are referred to us. Some bulk billing is available. Common referral pathways include:

Victims of Crime
People who have been victims of crime including domestic violence and childhood abuse may be eligible to receive free counselling under this scheme. For more information see Victims of Crime website or phone 1800 633 063

Workcover
If you have a psychological injury as a result of a workplace incident, you may be eligible for psychological assessment and treatment through Workcover. You will need a GP referral and approval from your Insurer. There is no fee associated with these consultations.

Department of Veterans Affairs
There is no fee to see us under the DVA counselling scheme. Eligible clients require a GP referral

Self referral
Rebates are also available through some Private Health Insurance Providers

Emma Bullen

Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW) with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). The regulatory body of professional Social Workers.

Emma has an honours degree in Social Work from the University of NSW. She is an approved counsellor for the NSW government Victims Services and is a registered provider of therapeutic services under NSW Workcover. Emma is a member of Australian and New Zealand Infertility Counsellors Association.

Emma has been working in the health industry since 1996 and has held a senior clinical specialist position in Community Health and has a background in Women’s Health. Emma is passionate about working with women of all ages and at all stages of their lives. She has expertise in working with women who have experienced complex trauma (domestic violence and childhood sexual abuse), anxiety, depression and issues surrounding pregnancy and infertility; work and family.

Emma is skilled in working with a variety of presentations and utilises cognitive behaviour therapies including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy as well as Narrative Therapy. Emma is committed to continuous evidence based practise with a focus on the individual person.

Emma has published works on the topic of therapy with women who have experienced domestic violence.

Jacqui Welch

Registered Clinical Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

Jacqui has a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology and is a member of the Australian Clinical Psychologists Association (ACPA). She has been working in Community Health, Mental Health and private practice settings for the past 15 years. Jacqui is a board approved supervisor  for students undertaking the Masters in Clinical Psychology program and psychologists completing their registrar program, and has worked as a Clinical Supervisor in the University of Newcastle Psychology Clinic.

Jacqui works with adolescents and adults and has a particular interest in behaviour change, working with bulimia and binge eating disorders as well as anxiety and substance use issues. Jacqui takes a client centred approach, using primarily cognitive behavioural therapy, whilst adopting other techniques when appropriate to the needs of individual clients.

Jacqui’s research areas include eating disorders and anxiety and depression in breast cancer patients.
